Maths Tutor Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the questions most frequently asked:
Q. What times do you offer tutoring?
A. Tutoring tends to take place in the afternoon or evening. As I tend to get booked up months in advance, and have a number of regular students I maintain a waiting list. On occasion I do have short-term availability, more-so during the day for A-Level or QTS students. Please contact me to discuss.
Q. How often will I or my child require tutoring?
A. For KS3 students, I tend to advise sessions on a fortnightly basis with the view that when they start KS4 the sessions can be increased to weekly. I can give a more accurate recommendation after an initial assessment.
For GCSE and AS/A-Level studends, weekly or fortnightly depending on ability and availability.
For QTS students, the number of sessions will depend on ability but weekly is recommended.
Q. What is the new 2017 GCSE grading structure?
A. You can read a full explanation of all GCSE grading levels here.
Q. Do we need to provide anything e.g. books etc
A. I will provide all necessary materials for your child to work with, such as work sheets and old test exam papers. If you require help with their homework, then please ensure that they have their worksheets at hand.
Q. Why is my child not performing as well in secondary school as they did in primary school?
A. This can be caused by many factors such as adapting to a new environment; peer pressure within the classroom; change of teacher and teaching style; adolescence to name but a few. Some or all these factors could have an effect on your child's performance. In my experience, to help your child to achieve their potential, they just require a boost in their self-esteem by correcting any misconceptions as well as enhancing their understanding to help them relate to their subject more effectively.
Q. Do you provide adult support?
A. Yes. As well as tutoring trainee teachers to pass their QTS Numeracy Skills Test, I can help adults to gain confidence with their everyday use of maths. If you are looking for any additional maths tutorial assistance, whether it's to pass a qualification or simply to help with your work, then please contact me and we can arrange a convenient time.
Q. What areas do you cover?
A. I am based in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire. I cover Broxbourne, Hoddesdon, Goffs Oak and Cuffley. For any QTS students travelling to Cheshunt by train I am able to pick you up from Cheshunt train station, and drop you off after your session. I can also offer half hour or hour tuition sessions over Skype, WhatsApp, Zoom or similar online conferencing services.
