GCSE maths resit class

I hold classes for students who would like to resit GCSE maths.

This course is designed to teach topics that appear in the higher paper whereby the grades obtained can range from Grade 3 up to Grade 9.  Topics taught will be up to Grade 7 standard (Grade A); higher topics may be taught based on the ability of the group.

Morning – preferably 10am until 11.30am – to be confirmed.

£35 for 1.5 hours per person.
Maximum number: 6

To be confirmed but will be based in Cheshunt or Hoddesdon.

Higher GCSE Maths versus Foundation Maths

There is a higher success rate of passes for the Edexcel Higher GCSE paper, as to obtain a pass you require a far lower percentage than if taking the Foundation paper.  It also means that you have the potential to get a higher grade.  For an explanation of grades click here.

The GCSE maths exams are comprised of three papers:

  • Paper 1:        Non calculator (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Paper 2:        Calculator (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Paper 3:        Calculator (1 hour 30 minutes)

The course will commence on establishing the foundations of maths before moving onto the higher topics.

The provisional dates for the Edexcel GCSE maths exams in Summer 2020 are:

  • Tuesday 19th May (Paper 1 – non calculator)
  • Thursday 4th June (Paper 2 – calculator)
  • Monday 8th June (Paper 3 – calculator)

What do I need to bring to each session?

  • An A4 ring binder (Lever Arch preferably)
  • An A4 pad of lined paper
  • A Scientific calculator (Casio fx-83GT)
  • A pencil case with pens (coloured as well as black/blue), pencil, ruler, highlighters.

I will provide dividers at the beginning of the course and all work will be organised in your ring binder at the end of each session. You will need to bring your folder as well as your completed homework to each session.

When does the course begin?

The course will begin September 2019 until early June.  The class will either be held on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings depending on the numbers attending and location.  There will be no sessions during half term, Christmas and Easter.  Each session will run for 1.5 hours.

Confirmation of dates and times to follow.
